On Saturday, August 27, 2016, over 100 Kaplan University Maine alumni, students, staff, and family joined together for an afternoon of family fun and fellowship at Maine Wildlife Park.
In addition to a barbeque and free entrance to the park, Kaplan University Maine hosted a school supplies drive for the Success Primary and Middle School in Hopewell, Jamaica. Over $400 in cash and school supplies were raised for the Jamaican Success School.
Mimi Gough, a Kaplan University Maine instructor from our South Portland campus location, has been leading these efforts and is proud to announce that Kaplan University Maine will be celebrating its 10-year partnership this year. All donations are intended to support the Jamaican School’s literacy goal, which has grown from 36% to 83% since the beginning of the partnership.
Those who donated school supplies received raffle tickets towards prizes, generously donated from local businesses. Prizes included gift certificates to Friendly’s, Otto, Margarita’s, Fishbones, Funtown/Splashtown; gift baskets from Pampered Chef and The Portland Red Claws; overnight stays at Fireside Inn/Suites and the Hilton Garden Inn, and a cruise on Casco Bay Lines in Portland.
Kaplan University Maine Alumni Relations would like to thank all who attended the event and look forward to future alumni gatherings in 2017.
