Military Branch Information

Kaplan University offers multiple benefits and support services to military students, including:

  • Undergraduate tuition reduced 55% for servicemembers, including Guard and Reserve ($165 per semester credit)
  • Technology fee waiver for undergraduate programs
  • Special refund policy in the case of deployment or change of orders
  • Special military leave of absence policy

    • Kaplan University is accredited by The Higher Learning Commission.
    • Kaplan University has signed the Department of Defense Voluntary Education Memorandum of Understanding (MOU), which provides the overall guidelines and policies a school must adhere to in order to participate in the military tuition assistance program.

      Community College of the Air Force Programs

      Kaplan University supports the following programs offered by the Community College of the Air Force:

      Air University Associate to Baccalaureate Cooperative (AU-ABC) Program

      For members of the Air Force who have received their associate’s degree through the Community College of the Air Force, Kaplan University has partnered with the Air University to help students work toward an approved bachelor's degree. Learn more about the AU-ABC Program here.

      GEM Program

      Kaplan University’s General Education Mobile (GEM) program was designed to help Air Force members fulfill their general education requirements in a mobile, nontraditional classroom format. Completing the GEM program is a key step toward earning an associate's degree through the Community College of the Air Force. GEM can be completed with five online courses at Kaplan University, and if you already have some college experience, the number of courses required may be reduced.       Education at Sea

      Flexibility is critical for all servicemembers pursuing education. Due to limited Internet connections onboard Navy vessels, it can be even more challenging for sailors.Kaplan University programs provide the flexibility to put your education on hold if you are deployed without access to an Internet connection.

      If you wish to study at Kaplan University while deployed, note that attendance in weekly seminars, participation in online discussion groups, and posting of weekly assignments is required. Therefore, please make sure to discuss your upcoming duty assignments with your Admissions Advisor before enrolling.

      Marine Academic Explorer Portal (AEX Portal)

      Research course offerings and familiarize yourself with Kaplan University using the Marine Academic Explorer website and the AEX portal.

      Sailor-Marine American Council on Education Registry Transcript (SMART)

      Any servicemember who separates from the service or retires after June 1, 1999, can access his or her SMART. This transcript can help you determine whether your military training, occupation, or prior coursework could shorten your path to a degree through awarded credit.
