Dr. Kelvin Beckett has more than 35 years of experience in education, having taught in schools and universities in both the United States and Canada. Prior to joining Kaplan University, Dr. Beckett taught at the University of Cincinnati and the University of British Columbia. He received a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from the University of British Columbia, a Master of Arts in Philosophy of Education from the University of British Columbia, and a Doctor of Philosophy in Philosophy of Education from the University of London (UK).
Dr. Beckett was awarded a doctoral fellowship by the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada. He has coauthored a book, Building Community in an Alternative School (Peter Lang Publishing, 2007), and has published articles in top international research journals, including Educational Theory, Journal of Philosophy of Education, Journal of Educational Leadership, and Urban Education. As Program Coordinator at the Office of Continuing Professional Education, Faculty of Education, University of British Columbia, Vancouver, Canada, from 1989 to 1998, Dr. Beckett supervised an expansion of the face-to-face and distance programs, increasing the number of courses offered and teachers enrolled by more than 100 percent. He was also awarded the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada, Doctoral Fellowship.
