Learning Center Experience
On March 24, 2014 the Kaplan University chapter of the Psi Chi International Honor Society inducted 49 new members into their distinguished honor society for undergraduate and graduate psychology students.
As is their mission statement, "Psi Chi International Honor Society strives to produce a well-educated, ethical, and socially responsible member committed to contributing to the science and profession of psychology and to society in general."
Kaplan University instructor Dr. Mary Streit serves as organization advisor to the group and continuously encourages student engagement among both new and old members.
Current president of the Kaplan University chapter, Madeline Baczkowski, adds "it is always an exciting event to welcome our newest members and secure their pledges to follow the mission of Psi Chi in their endeavors for living their role of psychology. The festivities generate a sense of kinship and hope for success and involvement of all Psi Chi members in activities of the club, and emphasize a reward to the members for maintaining a high grade point average (GPA) and extending congratulations for becoming a part of an international honor society for their academic excellence."
Psi Chi was founded in 1929. There are currently 1,100 chapters around the globe. The Kaplan University chapter was instituted in the Fall of 2010 and currently has 450 lifelong members.
"I am excited about the opportunity to help with the organization's charity initiatives and contribute in any way that I can to the efforts of Psi Chi," newly inducted member Cameron Leach states.
Psi Chi, falling in line with Kaplan University's other honor societies, invites eligible students to join their organization twice a year by email. Future students eligible for an invite must have a minimum of a 3.0 cumulative GPA and be in the top 35 percent of their class.
