Paralegal Club Brightens the Holidays for Children

Nastassja Hall, Paralegal Club Vice President

Thanks to a Kaplan University student-led organization, dozens of children served by the Toys for Tots organization had a happier holiday season last year.

The Paralegal Club encouraged their members to donate gifts and money to help needy children served by the organization. Their contributions were, in turn, delivered to worthy recipients around the country by members of the US Marine Corps.

Kaplan Paralegal Club President Candy Bredwell, who spearheaded the drive, said Toys for Tots holds a place dear to her heart because her children were once themselves the recipients of holiday gifts from the organization.

"Toys for Tots came to my door and I cried my eyes out, {because]] I was unable to give to my children that year. I believe this is a very worthwhile cause and I am very grateful to the Paralegal Club for getting on board and participating. "

Vice President Nastassja Hall donated a game and a doll for two lucky children through the fundraising drive. Her hope was to place a smile on their faces during the holiday season. "I imagined the faces of my own kids on Christmas Day and I wanted to give to a child that could not have that, " she said. "I have a saying that, 'with a heart that loves, we can spread love all around the world.'"

Club member Vanessa Gomez donated toys at a 24-hour family event in El Paso, Texas that brought together the Marine Corps, Wal-Mart, and the local news media. "I had fun watching my son enjoy himself," she said, and "it was nice to see so many people join together for a great cause."
