Kaplan University Golden Key Honor Society Awards Scholarships to Members

    Golden Key

Creating an opportunity to engage and reward their members, student leaders of the Kaplan University Chapter of Golden Key International Honor Society held a scholarship contest and encouraged all members to participate for a chance to be judged and selected by their peers for one of three scholarships offered.

Student members who participated submitted a current resume along with a one-paragraph statement regarding the importance of leadership, education, and service in the area of academics. The essays were then reviewed and voted on with a scholarship given to the top three (3) in the amounts of $250 (1st place), $150 (2nd place), and $100 (3rd place).

Top prize was taken by Njiri Daniels, Bachelor of Science in Health Sciences major, followed by Jennifer MacDowell, Bachelor of Science in Health Care Administration major, and Yolanda Lloyd-Flemming, Master of Science in Psychology major.

"I felt honored and privileged-while shocked and surprised-all at the same time. I was glad to feel like my hard work was rewarded, and I was blessed to receive the scholarship," stated Njiri Daniels, Marine veteran and Kaplan University Golden Key member.

Each year, university chapters of Golden Key International Honor Society are allotted $500 to award chapter scholarships to their members in addition to the established national scholarships open to all society members interested in applying.

"It is an honor to award scholarships to our deserving members," said Brad Rainey, Golden Key Executive Director. "It is important to us to award scholarships at the local university level. This allows us to better support our members and show our appreciation of their hard work and dedication to the Society."

This is one of many opportunities provided to members of the chapter, as the organization also maintains a very active Facebook community, provides members with a quarterly newsletter titled the "Golden Scholar," and brings in guest speakers, which have included Erin Gruwell, founder of American Freedom Writers, along with various other initiatives.
