Learning Center Experience
Dr. Julee Poole received her Bachelor of Science in Psychology/Sociology in 1982 and Master of Science in Mental Health Counseling in 1998 from Austin Peay State University. Dr. Poole received her PhD in Psychology with a specialization in family psychology in 2006 from Capella University. Her master’s thesis was entitled “Aggressive and nonaggressive adolescents: Self-esteem levels and the types of defense mechanisms used when perceiving an ego threat.” Her dissertation was entitled “Reconstructive play-based psychoeducational family therapy: An effectiveness study with families exposed to family violence.”
She was the clinical director of Family Guidance Training Institute, Inc., a community mental health center and alcohol and drug prevention and treatment and DUI school facility. She has over 30 years of experience working with children and their families in the mental health field. She is the owner of The Path Life Coaching, a life coaching company serving children, adolescents, adults, and families. Dr. Poole is a Board Certified Professional Life Coach.
Dr. Poole has taught both online and on-campus for several universities since 2002, at the graduate and undergraduate levels. She has developed and taught over 40 different psychology and counseling courses during her tenure. Dr. Poole was assistant chair for the graduate psychology department at Kaplan University prior to her promotion to chair of the graduate psychology department for Kaplan University.
In addition to a number of publications in peer-reviewed journals and family and parent magazines, she is the co-author of Children of Trauma: When Hitting Hits Home, a professional manual for those working with children who have experienced family violence and the author of The Cryin’ House: A Story for Children Who Witness Family Violence, a book for children who have been exposed to domestic violence. Dr. Poole has presented at a number of local, regional, national, and international conferences on topics related to university teaching, critical thinking, service learning, domestic violence, self-esteem and defense mechanisms, and mental health disorders and treatment.
She is also an active volunteer in the Clarksville, Tennessee community. She has been a member of the Montgomery County Foster Care Review Board, the Clarksville-Montgomery County School System Truancy Board, Mid-Cumberland Council on Children and Youth, TECTA Advisory Board, and Therapy Dogs International. She is the co-founder of the Trinity Coalition, a collaborative organization of faith, social services, and mental health organizations developed to address youth issues within the community through youth leadership conferences, service learning opportunities, volunteer days for youth, and youth violence prevention programs. Dr. Poole is also a board member for Tabernacle Christian School, an AdvancED, nationally accredited private, Christian school.
