Learning Center Experience
never too old, too wacky, too wild, to pick up a book and read to a
child." ~Dr. Seuss
On March 1, 2013, the
National Education Association (NEA) will celebrate ReadAcross America Day. The
NEA represents over 3 million K-12 teachers, higher education faculty, education support staff, school
administrators, retired educators, and more.
It is the largest professional employee organization working towards
advancing the cause of public education across the nation.
America Day is celebrating its sixteenth year in the United States. The day was
created by a small group of NEA members with the goal to get kids excited about
reading. The theme for 2013 is “Grab your Hat and Read with the Cat” which
suits itself as this day is celebrated on the birthday of iconic author Dr. Seuss.
The NEA has been
the spearhead for promoting this day over the years with additional support
from nonprofit organizations across the country. Read Across America Day is not
only encouraged in schools, but is encouraged to be recognized everywhere in
the community—libraries, hospitals, community centers, bookstores, churches,
The College of Public Service and Center for Public Service would like to recognize this day and
encourage educators and beyond to get out there and promote reading. You can
discover which tools will help you inspire students to pick up a book on Read
Across America Day and open the door to lifelong reading.
