Chicken Soup for the Soul author Jack Canfield urged graduates at Kaplan University’s Summer 2012 Commencement Ceremony Saturday, August 4, to believe that they can accomplish anything they set their minds and hearts to—no matter what obstacles they may face in life.

Canfield spoke to graduates, their families, and Kaplan University employees who packed the Arie Crown Theater to mark the successful completion of degree programs by 8,000-plus online students.

More than 1,000 of the graduates, many of whom met their classmates face-to-face for the first time, attended the event in person. Thousands more watched online via a real-time webcast.

Canfield said, "As a result of having completed and edited more than 20,000 stories for the Chicken Soup for the Soul series, I can tell you without any hesitation that someone somewhere has triumphed over any obstacle you will ever face and they have gone on to create successful businesses, fulfilling marriages, happy lives...and made a significant contribution to their communities and the world. If they can do it, you can too!"

Kaplan University President Dr. Wade Dyke also had motivational words for the grads, noting the tremendous effort they put into successfully balancing school and other responsibilities.

“It was your hard work, your dedication, and your determination that led to this momentous occasion,” he told them. “You earned it! You did it!  Congratulations!”
