Council Bluffs Campus Students Volunteering for Habitat for Humanity

Recognition is not the reason volunteers choose to help—volunteers help because they care. At Kaplan University, we have a foundational belief in serving our communities and encouraging and facilitating others to do the same.

The Difference Is Us…a Resounding Theme of Kaplan University and Its Employees

“Our employees are passionate and mission-driven and they make a difference in so many lives,” said Lisa Gefen Sicilian, chief administrative officer at Kaplan University. “I’ve heard so many great stories and am looking forward to partnering with employees to support additional volunteer opportunities.”

    Kaplan University’s Ongoing Commitment

The following are just a few volunteer events attended or facilitated by Kaplan University employees.

    • Chicago Cares–Kaplan University has been a corporate sponsor for the Annual Chicago Cares Serve-a-thon for the past 5 years, with participation by Kaplan University employees increasing each year. On Saturday, June 9, 2012, the University had more than 50 volunteers who participated in landscaping, painting, and building benches for a local Chicago school.
    • Habitat for Humanity–Kaplan University has partnered with Habitat for Humanity in Broward and Palm Beach Counties in Florida, as well as Phoenix, Arizona, where employees traded in their professional roles, grabbed a tool belt, and took part in building a house in the respective local communities.
    • WPBT Phone-a-thon–Volunteers answered the phones in Miami, Florida, to raise funds for public broadcast and education programs. Employees raved about having fun answering the phones and collecting donations for a worthy cause.
    • Kaplan University Graduation–Twice a year employees have the opportunity to work together offsite while interacting with graduating students. The winter 2012 graduation had a record high of more than 200 employees who offered their assistance.

Kaplan University Charity Golf Tournament–This annual event continues to be an employee favorite whether playing for the cause or volunteering. For the past 7 years there has been an increase in players and volunteers who come out to support the Urban League of Broward County, Florida.

Kaplan University volunteers have also actively participated at the United Way Day of Caring and the annual Urban League Back to School Rally. For the past 4 years, Kaplan University has served as the leading provider of volunteers to the Urban League’s Back to School Rally.

Being a volunteer is a win-win. You are helping others and only after working as a volunteer you realize the even greater satisfaction it brings.
