    Single-Parent Scholarship

    Overview:

    Kaplan University has established the Kaplan University Single-Parent Scholarship for new students enrolling in Kaplan University's select undergraduate degree programs. 

    Award:

    • $500 per-term tuition reduction, with a maximum value of $8,500 for a bachelor's degree or $4,500 for an associate's degree.

  • Eligibility Requirements Overview: 

    • Must be a first-time enrollee in an undergraduate degree program at Kaplan University; School of Nursing, certificate, and continuing students are not eligible.
    • Must meet all Kaplan University admissions requirements for the undergraduate degree program, including GED or high school equivalent, and be fully accepted into one of the Kaplan University eligible online undergraduate degree programs.
    • Must complete and submit the Kaplan University Single-Parent Scholarship application prior to or at the time of enrollment.
    • Starting in the first term, students must take a minimum of 2 courses per term and maintain a cumulative GPA of 2.5.
    • Must be continuously enrolled; withdrawing from school or not starting classes in the first term will result in ineligibility.
    • Must attest to single parent status at the time of application for the Scholarship.
    • Must provide proof that you are a single parent* via one of the following ways:
      o      Verification via the FAFSA as a single parent; or
      o      Another form of documentation suitable to Kaplan University that would prove single-parent status.

    Other Terms and Conditions:

    • If all of the application materials and proof of eligibility are not provided to Kaplan University on or before the time of enrollment for online students (prior to the end of the fourth week of the first term for campus and learning center students), the student will not be eligible for the Kaplan University Single-Parent Scholarship and will be responsible for the total cost of tuition for enrollment.
    • If the student meets all eligibility criteria to qualify, the Scholarship will be applied at the end of the term as a tuition credit of $500.
    • If a student who is awarded the Single-Parent Scholarship marries while enrolled at Kaplan University, he or she will remain eligible for the Scholarship provided all other continuing eligibility criteria are met.
    • The Scholarship cannot be used in conjunction with any other Kaplan University tuition reductions (including active-duty and veterans military tuition rates), grants, vouchers, or other scholarships.
    • The Scholarship application must not contain any material that could be considered unlawful, harmful, threatening, abusive, harassing, defamatory, vulgar, obscene, indecent, sexually explicit, or hateful; or content that refers negatively to people or groups on the basis of their age, \race, ethnicity, religion, sexual orientation, gender, national origin, handicap, disability, veteran status, or similar characteristics; or include material that is otherwise objectionable to the University.

    Continued Eligibility:

    • To remain eligible, undergraduate students must maintain a CGPA of 2.5 out of 4.0 for the duration of their program at Kaplan University to maintain the award. If the student does not maintain a 2.5 CGPA, he or she will not be eligible to receive the Scholarship.
    • The student must remain in good financial standing with Kaplan University.
    • All required documents must be on file at Kaplan University for the Scholarship to be awarded.
    • Eligible students must be continuously enrolled at Kaplan University. Students who withdraw will no longer be eligible for the Scholarship.
     
    *Per the terms and conditions of this scholarship, a single parent is defined as a parent who is either never married, divorced/separated, or widowed. Those who are “unmarried and both parents living together” or “married/remarried” according to the FAFSA are not eligible.To qualify for this scholarship, the applicant needs to be “single” per the definition outlined here and meet the other eligibility criteria as well.
