    Dr. Tracy Towne, PhD, RN, Full-Time Faculty, Kaplan University School of Nursing

    Dr. Tracy M. Towne joined Kaplan University in 2008 as a part-time professor in the RN-to-BSN program, and in 2010 became a full-time member of this program. Her responsibilities include course delivery in the RN-to-BSN program, serving as the lead faculty member for the BSN Capstone course and the Faith Based Community Nursing course, and participating in a variety of School of Nursing and University wide committees. Dr. Towne is responsible for ensuring courses meet the standards of the AACN and assists the program in maintaining accreditation standards along with providing daily support to students and part-time faculty members.

    Dr. Towne has experience working in a wide variety of clinical specialties including medical/surgical acute care, home health care, public health, long term care, school nursing, clinical trial investigation nursing, and labor/delivery and postpartum care. Her clinical work has taken place in rural communities, university research hospitals, and urban health care facilities. Dr. Towne has served as a preceptor, shift supervisor, clinical nurse specialist, staff educator, and assistant director in her tenure in the clinical field. Since 2003, Dr. Towne has spent the majority of her career working in schools of nursing educating students ranging from associate degree seeking to doctoral. This work has taken place in on ground and online programs.

    After earning a degree in nursing and minor in psychology from Edgewood College in Madison, WI, Dr. Towne continued on to receive her MSN from the University of Wisconsin Madison specializing in medical/surgical nursing education. To complete her PhD, Dr. Towne studied at Georgia Baptist College of Nursing Mercer University in Atlanta, GA. At Mercer University, Dr. Towne studied the role of health care providers in the self-management activities in Type 2 diabetics. Dr. Towne is a member of the Wisconsin Nurses Association, American Nurses Association, a board member of Greenhaven Domestic Violence organization, and currently pursing certification in managed care from the AMCN.
