    Tomeka Royster, DNP, FNP-BC, MSN, Full-Time Faculty, Kaplan University School of Nursing

    Dr. Tomeka Royster joined the Kaplan University School of Nursing faculty as adjunct faculty in 2011 in the BSN program; she has been in the health care field for more than 21 years. She initially entered the field as a combat medic in the United States Army Reserves at the age of 17. She eventually became an officer in the United States Army Nursing Corps. After serving more than 12 years in the Army Reserves, she decided to further her career in nursing by pursuing a Doctorate in Nursing Practice. She completed her BSN at the University of Alabama in 2001. She also earned a Bachelor of Science in Human Development that same year. In 2003, Dr. Royster completed her Master of Science in Nursing at Samford University with a concentration as a family nurse practitioner. In 2009, she earned a Doctorate in Nursing Practice from the University of South Alabama. She is now pursuing a doctorate in nursing education/administration from William Carey University.

    Her nursing career has expanded from acute care to nursing research. She started her nursing career as an intensive care nurse an acute care facility. She then became a psychiatric nurse at Alabama's largest state hospital for several years. Her path eventually led her to practice in both primary and geriatric care. Presently, she cares for veterans and employees at a Veterans Affairs Medical Center. She also has served as an adjunct faculty member at a local community college and three universities. She remains active in Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing and West Alabama Nurse Practitioner Association.
