Marion O’Hare
Marion O’Hare is a registered nurse with over 25 years of clinical,
administrative, teaching, and research experience, chiefly in the area of
psychiatric nursing, holistic nursing, education, and leadership. She has
taught both graduate and undergraduate online nursing courses and has created
distance learning courses. She has lectured nationally and internationally on
therapeutic use of self, the addicted client, patient-centered care, and
alternative nursing therapies.
Dr. O’Hare is a nurse psychotherapist and in the past has held various
certifications as an Advanced Holistic Nurse, Reiki Master, Certified Nurse
AMMAâ therapist
(Oriental bodywork), Certified Hypnotherapist, and author of the book The Nurse as Wounded Healer: From Trauma to
Transcendence published by Jones and Bartlett (2002). She has been
designated as counselor emeritus by the New York State Office
of Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Services.In addition, she served the New York State Peer
Assistance Network (SPAN) as a peer advocate.
She was recognized with an Award of Recognition for contribution to the
Nursing Spectrum Ambassador Program 2000-2001 and a Designation as Nurse of
Excellence 2002 from Southside Hospital in Bay Shore, New York. She also
received an award of recognition for outstanding curriculum development from
Western Governor’s University in January 2009 after being instrumental in a
successful Commission on Collegiate
Nursing Education (CCNE)
accreditation visit to Western Governor’s University in November 2008
She established Personal Wellness Consultation in 2000, a private
practice dedicated to the care of health professionals and to providing
educational information and presentations for health professionals in the area
of self-care. As a world traveler to all seven continents, Dr. O’Hare comes
with a wealth of cross-cultural experiences.
