Learning Center Experience
Dr. Alexander joined the School of Nursing in 2010. Her responsibilities include teaching and serving as course lead for the executive leader courses. She also serves as a member of the Kaplan University Institutional Review Board and the Scholarship Committee of the Phi Rho Chapter of Sigma Theta Tau International.
Prior to joining Kaplan University, Dr. Alexander served as Adjunct Professor at Long Island University and held both full time and part time positions at Adelphi University teaching in the undergraduate, graduate and doctoral programs over the course of 30 years. She has also held the position of assistant director of nursing for a Long Island Hospital where her responsibilities included staffing and scheduling, risk management and clinical research and clinical director for an innovative acute care for the elderly unit (ACE). Dr. Alexander is especially proud of the ACE Unit which she designed and implemented collaboratively with a gerontologist which became a successful care model adopted by several local and national hospitals.
Dr. Alexander has also served, since 1999, as a member of the New York State Surrogate Decision Making committee which serves as an alternative to the court system for making non-emergent medical care decisions for individuals with special needs who lack capacity and a surrogate decision maker.
Dr. Alexander holds a Doctor of Philosophy Degree, a Master of Science and a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Adelphi University School of Nursing, NY. She is licensed as a registered nurse in both New York and Iowa. Her recent research interests include evidence based practice, plagiarism, and mentorship.
