    Deborah Adelman, PhD, RN, NE-BC, Full-Time Faculty, Kaplan University School of Nursing

    Dr. Adelman joined Kaplan University as the interim Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) academic chair in the School of Nursing in 2010. Her responsibilities included overseeing and facilitating effective delivery of the MSN program. She became a professor of the graduate nursing program in 2011. Dr. Adelman is the course lead for the executive leadership and nurse educator practicum courses.

    Prior to joining Kaplan University, Dr. Adelman held roles as associate professor and course developer for the RN-to-BSN program at the State University of New York (SUNY), Delhi. She has also served as mentor and dissertation chair at Capella University in the School of Education. She has created full RN-to-BSN, MSN NE, and capstone courses for SYNY Delhi, South, and Walden Universities. Dr. Adelman is a subject matter expert for Cengage Publishing and grant reviewer for the Health Resources & Services Administration (HRSA). She is a peer reviewer for professional nursing journals and consults on a state and national level. Areas of publication include disaster nursing, innovative teaching strategies, constructivism, curriculum development, faculty development, teaching online, bullying in nursing education, and the role of the activity director. She has published a disaster nursing textbook and chapter on disaster response in Focus on Adult Health: Medical-surgical Nursing textbook. She is pursuing research on graduate nursing faculty perceptions of plagiarism, nurse manager perceptions of disaster response capabilities and has done research on bullying in nursing education.

    Dr. Adelman is a board certified nurse executive and is licensed as a registered nurse in the states of Illinois and Iowa. She holds a Doctor of Philosophy with a human resource education focus from the University of Illinois, Urbana/Champaign College of Education and received a Master of Science in Nursing in Nursing Administration with a focus on public health nursing from the University of Illinois, University Center. She has a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University of Illinois, Medical Center, College of Nursing.
