    Kaplan Hosts Luncheon for ESGR

    news_213

Kaplan University recently hosted The Florida Committee for Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve’s (ESGR) annual award luncheon in Fort Lauderdale, Fl. Here, employers including KU, were recognized for going above and beyond for employees who currently serve in the Florida National Guard and Reserve. The luncheon was held during the annual Navy Day’s Fleet week, and the venue couldn’t have been more fitting. The room overlooked Port Everglades, with floor to ceiling glass windows, magnificently displaying elements of the 5th battle group, including the USS Iwo Jima. It was quite a sight.

As Servicemmebers and civilians mingled, it quickly became evident that the shared spirit of military appreciation is alive and well in the South Florida business community.

In a greeting kicking off the awards ceremony, Scott Kilgore, Kaplan University’s Senior Vice President of Military Affairs, described the importance the Guard and Reserve plays in military missions and the risks these vital men and women in uniform face.

“Since 2001, the National Guard and Reserves have deployed more than 800,000 service members in the War on Terror, Operations Iraqi Freedom and New Dawn” he said. “During this time, 493 Guardsman or Reservists have been killed in action and 3,286 have been wounded.”

Kaplan University was both honored and proud to host this event.
