KU–Maine learned that students in its Prelicensure Bachelor of Nursing program achieved a pass rate of 94% on the most recent administration of the National Council License Examination (NCLEX), the mandatory licensing exam for nurses in United States and Canada. The average national pass rate for the exam is 87%. “To say the least, we are incredibly proud of the milestones our graduates achieved in 2015. A 94% pass rate is exceptional. In addition to being significantly better than the national average, it is the highest rate for all BSN programs in the state of Maine,” said KU–Maine Augusta Campus President Matthew Cote. “We have a waiting list of employers anxious to hire our students, which clearly speaks to the preparedness of our 2015 graduates now working within the hospital system." Shannon Packard, KU–Maine Director of Nursing agreed, adding, "Our students' success has carried over from academia to practice with many great success stories of our graduates now working as nurses within Maine's hospitals. These benchmarks epitomize the strength of the program, the talent and dedication of our amazing faculty, and the caliber of the students in the nursing program at Kaplan.” KU Maine’s nursing program has more than 100 students, making it the largest on-ground program at the Augusta campus.
KU–Maine isn’t the only nursing program to receive great news recently. In late January, the School of Nursing at Kaplan University Maryland received word that the Maryland Board of Nursing approved three new nurse practitioner programs for the campus. The Board gave the thumbs up for new adult-gerontology and family, post-masters, and masters nurse practitioner programs. The approval allows KU-Maryland to begin enrolling prospective students in the nurse practitioner programs within the next month. In anticipation of the approval, admissions and advising staff in Maryland have completed a comprehensive training program provided by the School of Nursing. "We are very excited to be able to offer the nurse practitioner programs in Maryland,” said Maryland campuses President Chris Motz. “More and more nursing professionals are seeking credentials that will allow them to expand their duties and functions. In hospitals and other acute care facilities, the need for nurse practitioners is growing. Kaplan will now be able to provide options that are both flexible and of high quality.” In addition, the campus is working with Kaplan University Dean Dr. Chandice Covington to secure approval of a Doctor of Nursing program for the Maryland Campuses. “Approval of the DNP will allow us to provide the full range of in-demand graduate education to nursing professionals in Maryland," said Motz.
