    Dr. Kerrie Berends, Academic Department Chair, Associate of Science in Health Science, Master of Science in Health Education, and Master of Public Health

    Dr. Kerrie Berends is the academic department chair for the Associate of Science in Health Science, Master of Science in Health Education, and Master of Public Health. Her main responsibilities include upholding classroom standards through the supervision of faculty, scheduling of classes, and maximizing student success through providing a meaningful learning experience. She is part of a research team involving first-term student success and retention and continues to help implement research studies in the School of Health Sciences.

    Dr. Berends joined Kaplan University in 2008 as an adjunct instructor for the Bachelor of Science in Health and Wellness program and then worked as a curriculum manager and later an assistant department chair.  Her presentations and professional interests include leadership, first term student success, and physical activity programming for individuals with disabilities.

    Dr. Berends holds a Doctor of Philosophy in Kinesiology from Texas Woman’s University, a Master of Science in Adapted Physical Activity from Western Michigan University, and a Bachelor of Science in Physical Education/Corporate Health and Wellness from Grand Valley State University. She is an American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM) Certified Exercise Physiologist (EP-C), Certified Adapted Physical Educator (CAPE), and a Professional Association of Therapeutic Horsemanship (PATH) registered therapeutic horseback riding instructor.
