Advantages of Using a Real Estate Agent

Whether you are thinking of buying a home or contemplating selling your current one, one resource you may want to take advantage of is the use of a real estate salesperson to guide you through the process.

Some of the benefits that real estate agents can provide to buyers and sellers include:

    • Prescreening buyers for the sellers
    • Acting as a liaison between buyers and sellers
    • Marketing services to the sellers
    • Providing services at no cost to the buyer (commissions are typically paid by the sellers)
    • Referring other real estate professionals that clients may need (such as home inspectors or mortgage brokers) (Source: www.realtor.com)

Additionally, many people use the terms real estate salesperson, real estate agent, and realtor interchangeably. Not all agents are realtors; only those that are members of the area’s multiple listing service (MLS) can call themselves realtors. An advantage of using a realtor is that these agents can glean and analyze data from the MLS.  This analysis can give the buyer or seller more realistic and credible information than an agent who does not have access to this data.

If you are considering whether to use the assistance of a real estate agent, be sure to do some research on what services you want the real estate agent to provide. Also, interview the agent and ask questions before signing a listing or sales contract to make sure they are a good fit for you.
