A critical, key step in any successful career journey is a personal inventory. This includes being realistic about your needs, professional experiences, and long- and short-term objectives you are seeking. This should be the first step anyone considering a career move should take, especially a lateral move or a different career. Above all, you want to make sure you’re leveraging your passion and desires as well as your talents and strengths in your new career journey—to help you develop the most effective and efficient gameplan for getting you to your ultimate goal.

Here are some considerations when developing your personal inventory.
1. Preferences and Lifestyle

2. Education, including degrees, training, certifications, and single college course you may have taken. Previous college credits and\or your previous work experience can save you both time and money, so make sure you consider those in your career audit and when deciding which university to attend. 3. Experience in the workplace, internships, and volunteer work. Consider what have you done that’s built and strengthened your skillset and knowledge.4. Assessments. There are many career and personality assessments. An electronic search for these is a good place to start (note: some assessments require fees). Here are some assessments you may want to look into.
