    Dr. Chandice Covington

    Dr. Covington previously served as professor and chair of the Department of Women, Children, and Family Nursing at Rush University and as dean and professor at the University of North Dakota College of Nursing. A Fellow in the American Academy of Nursing, she earned her Doctor of Philosophy in clinical nursing research from the University of Michigan and a Master of Science in Nursing and Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University of Texas. She is a board certified primary care pediatric nurse practitioner. 

    Her extensive teaching experience includes positions at the University of California–Los Angeles, Wayne State University, and Children’s Hospital of Michigan in Detroit. She has published over 70 peer-reviewed articles that are based on outcomes of funded research grants as principal or co-principal investigator supported by organizations such as National Institutes of Health, the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, and Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation. Most recently, she was an investigator on a Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation grant to develop a breast shield to deactivate HIV in breast milk globally. She has a particular research interest in improving the health of women, children, and families in domestic and global, rural and urban settings.
